PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 16: Indian Railways will roll out a redesigned official logo across the country from June 1 in a move aimed at aligning its visual identity with its expanded organisational structure.

According to directives issued by the Railway Board, the new emblem will prominently feature 18 red stars, representing the 18 railway zones currently functioning under Indian Railways.

New Logo to Reflect Current Railway Structure

Sources said the earlier logo carried 17 stars, corresponding to the number of railway zones when the emblem was originally designed.

Despite the later addition of a new railway zone, the logo had remained unchanged until now. The latest redesign seeks to bring the emblem in line with the present administrative structure of Indian Railways.

Railway officials at Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway, said the updated insignia is intended to modernise the organisation’s visual identity while also creating greater awareness among passengers and employees about the railway network’s structure.

Phased Rollout Across Railway Network

The new logo will be introduced in phases across all railway zones, divisions, stations and administrative offices.

It will gradually replace the existing emblem on:

  • Official documents
  • Signboards
  • Stationery
  • Digital platforms

Officials said the Railway Board’s decision reflects an effort to strengthen the contemporary identity of Indian Railways while symbolising the unity and scale of one of the world’s largest rail networks.
