PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 29: Tension gripped Barinagar under the Telco police station area after a youth accused of sending obscene messages to a woman was arrested, and his family members allegedly scuffled with police personnel during the operation.

The accused, identified as Ajju Khan, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a local woman, who alleged that he had repeatedly sent obscene videos and objectionable audio clips to her mobile phone, causing severe mental harassment.

Complaint Leads to FIR

According to police, the woman submitted a written complaint at the Telco police station on May 27. Acting on the complaint, investigators examined the digital evidence and subsequently registered an FIR against the accused.

Police said the messages and multimedia content sent to the complainant’s phone were verified before legal action was initiated.

Tension During Arrest Operation

The situation escalated when a police team reached the accused’s residence to serve notice and carry out the arrest.

According to officials, family members and supporters of the accused allegedly attempted to prevent the police from performing their duty, leading to a heated argument that soon turned into a physical confrontation with police personnel.

After receiving information about the deteriorating situation, the officer-in-charge reached the spot with additional police force and brought the situation under control. The accused was subsequently taken to the police station.

Previous Local Dispute Surfaces During Probe

During the investigation, police reportedly found that there had been an earlier dispute between the complainant and the accused’s family in the locality.

Although the matter had allegedly been resolved earlier, tensions resurfaced following the latest allegations, adding to the hostility during the arrest operation.

Two Separate FIRs Registered

Police have registered two separate FIRs in connection with the incident.

The first case pertains to alleged harassment through obscene digital content, while the second relates to obstructing government duty and assaulting police personnel during the arrest operation.

The accused’s mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination, and efforts are underway to identify and take action against others allegedly involved in the scuffle with the police team.

Investigation Underway

Officials said further investigation is in progress and additional evidence is being examined. Police are also verifying the role of individuals who allegedly attempted to obstruct the arrest and engage in violence against law enforcement personnel.
