Ranchi, June 13: Passenger traffic at Birsa Munda Airport has increased more than fourfold over the past decade, reflecting the rapid growth of civil aviation and improved connectivity in Jharkhand, Airport Director Vinod Kumar said ahead of the observance of ‘Yatri Suvidha Diwas’ on June 15.
According to Kumar, annual passenger footfall at Ranchi airport has risen from around 6.5 lakh in 2014-15 to nearly 27 lakh passengers, making it one of the key aviation hubs in eastern India and a major driver of tourism, trade and economic activity in the state.
Passenger Numbers Reflect Airport’s Growing Importance
Highlighting the airport’s progress, Kumar said the sharp rise in passenger traffic demonstrates the growing demand for air travel and the success of infrastructure expansion and connectivity initiatives undertaken over the years.
He noted that better air connectivity has benefited sectors such as tourism, hospitality, transport, trade and services, while strengthening Ranchi’s position as a gateway to Jharkhand.
Revenue Registers Steady Rise
The airport has also witnessed strong financial growth. Revenue increased from ₹49.21 crore in 2023-24 to ₹64.60 crore in 2024-25 and is projected to touch ₹87.56 crore in 2025-26, indicating sustained growth in passenger movement and airport operations.
