Jharkhand launches ₹4,000 monthly pension scheme for elderly, ill and differently-abled artists

Ranchi, June 24: In a major welfare initiative for the cultural community, the Jharkhand government has launched the Monthly Pension (Artist Pension) Scheme to provide social and financial support to elderly, critically ill and permanently differently-abled artists across the state.

The scheme, approved under the guidance of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will provide an honorarium of ₹4,000 per month to eligible artists. The amount will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Support for Artists Facing Financial Hardship

According to Asif Ekram, Director of the Department of Art and Culture, the scheme aims to support artists who are facing economic difficulties due to old age, serious illness or permanent disability.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s recognition and appreciation of the lifelong contributions made by artists to Jharkhand’s cultural heritage.

Who Can Apply?

The scheme is open to:

  • Native residents of Jharkhand
  • Elderly artists
  • Critically ill artists
  • Permanently differently-abled artists
  • Artists associated with music, dance, theatre, folk art, painting, sculpture and other cultural fields

  • Age proof
  • Annual income certificate
  • Residence proof
  • Aadhaar card copy
  • Bank account details
  • Certificates of achievements, honours and awards in the field of art
  • Medical or disability certificate (where applicable)
