Ranchi, June 25: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday reviewed preparations for the Durand Cup 2026 after senior Army officials called on him and briefed him about the prestigious football tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Ranchi from July 26.
Major General Sajjan Singh Mann, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Infantry Division, and Colonel Hemchandra, Nodal Officer for the Durand Cup, met the Chief Minister at his residential office on Kanke Road and discussed the arrangements and inter-departmental coordination for the event.

CM calls Durand Cup a matter of pride
During the meeting, the Chief Minister described the Durand Cup as one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious football tournaments and said it was a matter of pride for Jharkhand to host the event.
He said hosting such national-level competitions would strengthen the state’s sporting identity and provide greater exposure and opportunities for local footballers.
Time-bound preparations ordered
Soren directed officials to complete all preparations for the tournament in a time-bound manner and ensure that players, team officials and spectators do not face any inconvenience during the competition.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting sports and hosting more national and international sporting events in Jharkhand.
State Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudivya Kumar was also present during the meeting.
