Jamshedpur, July 9: A man accused in the murder of Rahul Singh alias Rahul Bachcha was injured in police firing during an arms recovery operation in Jamshedpur in the early hours of Thursday after he allegedly opened fire on the police and attempted to escape, officials said.
According to the police, the accused, Saheb Singh alias Shabbe, was taken to a forested area near Road No. 14 in Mango, along with two other accused, for the recovery of weapons allegedly used in the murder.
Police recover firearms
Officials said the police recovered a loaded pistol and another empty pistol based on information provided by the accused.
During the recovery operation, Shabbe allegedly snatched the loaded pistol, attempted to flee and fired two rounds at the police team.
The police said Sub-Inspector Sanjay retaliated in self-defence, injuring the accused in both legs.
Shabbe was subsequently overpowered, taken back into custody and shifted to MGM Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment under police security.

Rahul Bachcha murder
Rahul Singh alias Rahul Bachcha was shot dead and later attacked with bricks and stones in Mazar Gali under the Mango police station limits on the night of July 8, police said.
Following the incident, Shabbe and two other accused — Aftab and Sourav Dutta alias Bengali — surrendered before the police, officials said.
Investigation underway
City Superintendent of Police Lalit Meena said the accused allegedly fired at the police team during the recovery operation, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence.
He said the incident was being investigated in accordance with the law and that further action would be taken based on the findings.
