Dhanbad, Dec. 28: Over 22,000 employees of the Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone will likely get a direct private hospital treatment facility soon in an emergency.

Divisional spokesperson of East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU) Nilkamal Khawas, giving this information, said that on the first day of the Permanent Negotiating Machinery (PNM) meeting, ECRKU leaders demanded direct admission of patients at private hospitals, besides other health facilities.

Spokesperson Khawas said that although DRM Kamal Kishore Sinha was not present, officers from all division branches attended PNM and agreed on the demands of the Union.

Sick employees are referred to super-speciality private hospitals only through rail hospitals, although the railway has tied up with private hospitals.

“Sometimes the process of referring serious patients at superspecialty hospitals from railway hospitals becomes fatal. So, the Union has demanded permission for direct admission of the serious patients at private hospitals in an emergency to save life,” said Nilkamal Khawas.

ECRKU central Committee president DK Pandey, additional general secretary Md Ziauddin, assistant secretary Omprakash, organizing secretary Netaji Subhash, Somen Dutta, and NK Khawas represented the Union at the ongoing meeting.

Additional general secretary Md Ziauddin, while placing the demands, also asked for addressing doctors and nursing staff deficiencies in railway hospitals of division and ambulance facilities in all railway hospitals.

ECRKU leaders also demanded an allowance of 120 km daily for the loco pilot’s team of the Ranchi/ Hatia–Barkakana Rail Section.
