Dhanbad, July 14: As part of its Centenary Year celebrations, the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, has honoured one of its most distinguished alumni, Dr Mohinder Singh Gulati, with the Special Centenary Award in recognition of his exceptional professional achievements, enduring association with the institute and outstanding contribution towards its future.
The award was presented at Dr Gulati’s residence in the United States by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, along with Prof. Rajeev Upadhyay, Dean (Alumni Affairs), on behalf of the institute.
From IIT (ISM) Topper to Global Geothermal Pioneer
A member of the 1962 batch of Petroleum Engineering, Dr Gulati graduated as the topper of his class from the then Indian School of Mines before pursuing doctoral studies at Stanford University in the United States.
Over a distinguished international career spanning several decades, he has emerged as a globally recognised pioneer in geothermal energy, making significant contributions to geothermal exploration and development across the world. His work has earned widespread recognition for technical excellence, innovation and leadership in the global energy sector.

₹10 Crore Gift for Centenary Building
In a landmark philanthropic gesture coinciding with the institute’s 100th year, Dr Gulati has pledged ₹10 crore towards the construction of a Multi-Purpose Convention Hall in the upcoming Centenary Building at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
The contribution is among the largest donations ever made by an alumnus in the institute’s history and is expected to strengthen academic, cultural and community engagement on the campus.
