Ranchi, August 17: The Jharkhand government has decided to cancel the JSSC-CGL examination, with Chief Minister Hemant Soren announcing that all examinations conducted by TDPL since 2014 will be cancelled.
The announcement came on Monday after a meeting of the Council of Ministers. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Soren specifically named the JSSC-CGL examination and said that all examinations conducted by TDPL since 2014 would be cancelled. The JSSC-CGL is among the examinations conducted by the agency.
The government has also decided to constitute a committee headed by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal to frame rules and procedures for conducting recruitment examinations in a manner that prevents irregularities.
The decision comes amid an ongoing student agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The government had earlier announced the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination and two backlog examinations.
With the latest decision, the government has effectively accepted most of the key demands raised by protesting students. However, the demand for a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities remains unresolved.
JSSC-CGL 2023 Exam Had 2,025 Posts
The JSSC-CGL 2023 examination, conducted for recruitment to 2,025 posts, was held on September 21 and 22, 2024.
The results were declared on December 8, 2025, when Neeraj Sinha was serving as Chairman of the JSSC. He subsequently resigned amid protests and allegations by students regarding irregularities and a suspected paper leak.
Appointment letters to successful candidates were issued by the state government on December 30, 2025.
Students Had Demanded Cancellation of JSSC-CGL
Students had been alleging irregularities and a possible paper leak in the JSSC-CGL examination since the beginning of the recruitment process.
The latest phase of the student agitation intensified following allegations of irregularities in JPSC recruitments. During the investigation, Abhay Tiwari was arrested, and his alleged confessional statement reportedly contained details of large-scale manipulation in the JSSC-CGL examination.
The protesting students subsequently made cancellation of the JSSC-CGL one of their major demands. They also demanded cancellation of all JPSC and JSSC examinations conducted through TDPL.
Decision Comes Ahead of Student Meeting
The government had scheduled a meeting with the protesting students at 2:30 pm on Monday. However, before the proposed meeting, the Chief Minister convened a meeting of ministers.
Following the meeting, Soren announced the decision to cancel the examinations conducted by TDPL.
The government is now expected to work out the modalities for implementing the cancellations and framing a new examination system through the committee headed by Amitabh Kaushal.
The student agitation, meanwhile, has continued to focus on transparency in recruitment examinations and an independent probe into alleged irregularities. While the government has agreed to several of the students’ demands, the issue of a CBI investigation into the examinations remains a major point of contention.
