Ranchi, August 24: BJP State Chief Spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo on Monday accused the Hemant Soren government and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) of adopting what he described as the “model of Nazi Germany” to suppress democratic voices and political dissent in Jharkhand.
Addressing a press briefing at the BJP office, Shahdeo alleged that the government and the ruling party had “crossed all limits of political repression” and were increasingly using police action, restrictions and alleged false cases to silence critics.
BJP Questions Restrictions on Protests, Social Media
Shahdeo said reports of citizens being required to seek permission before holding protests, and even facing police verification for expressing their views or engaging with social media content, were “extremely serious”.
He questioned whether citizens in Jharkhand would now need police permission merely to exercise their right to freedom of speech.
“If that is the case, this is not democracy but a mindset of undeclared emergency,” he said.
Shahdeo cited Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and expression, and Article 19(1)(b), which guarantees citizens the right to assemble peacefully and without arms.
He said maintaining law and order was the responsibility of the government, but argued that it could not be used as a pretext to suppress the voices of the Opposition, students and ordinary citizens.

BJP Questions Government’s Handling of JPSC Case
Shahdeo also questioned the Jharkhand government’s handling of the JPSC matter before the Jharkhand High Court, saying its conduct appeared questionable.
He claimed that the Advocate General had been provided an advance copy of the petition before the matter came up before the court. Despite this, he alleged, the government’s case during the first hearing was presented by a junior advocate who did not oppose what he described as a defective petition.
Shahdeo further claimed that even during the second round of proceedings, the Advocate General did not present the government’s case.
‘Why Was Senior Legal Counsel Not Assigned?’
The BJP spokesperson demanded an explanation from the government as to why, despite having advance knowledge of what he described as a crucial matter, the Advocate General’s office did not entrust the case to senior counsels, including experienced Supreme Court advocates.
“The students are asking for answers—and the government cannot evade those questions through procedural formalities,” Shahdeo said.
He maintained that the government needed to address the concerns raised by students and explain its position on the handling of the JPSC case before the High Court.
