Ranchi, August 24: The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Jharkhand government and other respondents in connection with a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in recruitments conducted through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana during the hearing of a petition filed by Harisharan Devgan.
Petition Seeks CBI Probe into Recruitment Irregularities
Devgan has approached the Supreme Court seeking a CBI investigation into what the petition describes as large-scale irregularities in the state’s recruitment process.
During the hearing, counsel appearing for the petitioner argued that serious irregularities had taken place in recruitments conducted through the JPSC and JSSC.
The petition comes amid an ongoing agitation by students demanding a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in various recruitment examinations. The state government, however, has opposed a CBI investigation, according to the petitioner’s submissions.
Allegations of Money-for-Appointment
The petition alleges massive irregularities in recruitment conducted through the JPSC and JSSC. It also refers to instances in which allegedly ineligible candidates were appointed in exchange for money, claims that have emerged during the ongoing investigation into the recruitment controversy.
The allegations are currently subject to investigation and judicial scrutiny.
CID Probe Leads to Cancellation of 22 Appointments
According to the petition, findings from the Jharkhand CID investigation led the state government to cancel 22 appointments and suspend the recruitment process for six posts.
A further 17 appointments made earlier have also reportedly been brought under the scope of investigation following suspected irregularities.
The developments have intensified demands for an independent investigation into the recruitment process.
Government, JPSC, JSSC Among Respondents
The petition names the Jharkhand government, Government of India, CBI, Jharkhand CID, JPSC and JSSC as respondents.
The Supreme Court’s decision to issue notices marks another significant development in the ongoing controversy over recruitment examinations in Jharkhand.
Students have been demanding a CBI probe, maintaining that an independent investigation is necessary to establish accountability and ensure transparency in the state’s recruitment system.
