Jamshedpur, August 25: Jharkhand is likely to remain under the influence of a low-pressure system over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several parts of the state.
The low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Jharkhand, north Odisha and the northwest Bay of Bengal continues to influence weather conditions over the region.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.
According to the IMD, the system is likely to move nearly northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Odisha, maintaining favourable conditions for rainfall over the state.
Heavy Rain Likely in Southern Jharkhand on August 25
On August 25, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over southern Jharkhand, particularly in Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum. Adjoining central districts, including Gumla and Khunti, are also likely to experience heavy showers.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across the state.
Rainfall to Continue on August 26
The weather system is expected to continue influencing Jharkhand on August 26, when isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast over parts of the northwestern, central and southern regions.
Lohardaga, Gumla and Khunti in central Jharkhand, along with Simdega and West Singhbhum in the south, are among the districts likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Central Jharkhand to See Heavy Showers on August 27
The rain belt is expected to shift towards central and adjoining areas on August 27.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Lohardaga, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Bokaro and Dhanbad. Adjoining districts, including Latehar, Chatra and Giridih, may also receive heavy showers.
Southern Districts Likely to Remain Wet on August 28
On August 28, southern and adjoining central parts of the state are likely to remain vulnerable to heavy rainfall.
Simdega and West Singhbhum, along with Gumla, Lohardaga and Khunti, feature in the IMD forecast for isolated heavy rain.
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places during the period, prompting residents, particularly those working or travelling outdoors, to exercise caution.
Monsoon Trough Supporting Rainfall Activity
The monsoon trough at mean sea level is currently passing through Amritsar, Najibabad, Shahjahanpur and Varanasi before extending through the centre of the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha, and then southeastwards towards the north Bay of Bengal.
A trough extending from southwest Uttar Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area also passes through north Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, further supporting rainfall activity over the state.
With the low-pressure system moving across Jharkhand, rainfall activity is likely to remain active through the week, although the intensity and distribution of showers may vary from district to district.
