Jamshedpur, August 25: A man with a criminal record, who had been released from jail recently, was allegedly strangled to death and his body dumped near Sahu Hotel in Chhayanagar under the Sitaramdera police station area on Tuesday morning, triggering panic in the locality.
Police identified the deceased as Chandan Giri, a resident of Indiranagar in the Humepipe area.
Local residents spotted his body lying near the hotel in the morning and alerted the police. A police team reached the spot soon afterwards and launched an investigation.
Body Suspected to Have Been Dumped After Murder
Preliminary investigation suggests that Chandan may have been killed elsewhere before his body was brought to Chhayanagar and dumped there.
Police suspect that he was strangled with a wire or another object. However, the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the killing will be established after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Police Probe Criminal Links, Recent Contacts
Police have launched an investigation into Chandan’s criminal background and are examining people who had remained in contact with him following his release from jail.
Investigators are trying to establish where he had gone before his death, whom he had met and who had accompanied him during his final hours.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined to trace Chandan’s movements and identify any suspicious persons or vehicles seen near the spot.
Old Rivalry, Personal Dispute Among Possible Angles
Police are probing all possible angles, including an old criminal rivalry, a personal dispute or any other conflict that could have led to the murder.
Investigators are also trying to establish the actual location where the killing took place and determine how the body was transported to Chhayanagar.
Police officials said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses. Efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the killing and establish the motive.
