Dhanbad, September 2: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, a Knowledge Partner of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Vigyan Jyoti Programme, hosted 115 girl students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in Burdwan and Jamtara on Wednesday, allowing them to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and learn about academic and career opportunities in these fields.
The programme, held at the institute’s GJLT, featured interactive sessions with faculty members, keynote lectures and a visit to the institute’s innovation ecosystem. The initiative aimed to encourage young girls to pursue STEM education and consider careers in science and technology.
Students interact with Vigyan Jyoti coordinator
The programme began with a welcome address, followed by a series of keynote sessions. A key highlight was an interaction between the students and Prof. Madhulika Gupta, Nodal Coordinator of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme. A group photograph was also taken with the participating students.
IIT (ISM) faculty deliver keynote talks
As part of the academic and knowledge-sharing component, faculty members from different departments of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad delivered keynote talks.
Prof. Scindhiya Laxmi from the Department of Mathematics & Computing spoke on her academic discipline, followed by a session by Prof. Suresh P. Elumalai from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. Prof. Sunil Pulletikurti from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology also delivered a keynote session.
The sessions allowed the visiting students to interact with faculty members from diverse academic disciplines and broaden their understanding of STEM-related fields. The academic sessions were followed by lunch at the GJLT Dome.
Visit to innovation hub
The final component of the programme was a visit to i2h from 3 pm to 4 pm, where the students received further exposure to the institute’s innovation ecosystem.
The visit was organised as part of the broader objectives of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme, which seeks to encourage girl students to pursue STEM education and career pathways and help address the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields
