Dhanbad, September 3: Adding another distinction to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s research achievements, Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Raghuwanshi, Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering, has been selected for the prestigious IETE-CEOT Award (Biennial)-2026 for his contributions to the field of opto-electronics.
Prof. Raghuwanshi is among the recipients of the IETE Awards 2026 and will share the IETE-CEOT Award with Dr Simranjit Singh of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. The award recognises outstanding contributions to opto-electronics spanning materials, devices, circuits, technologies, systems and applications.
The award will be presented during the 69th Annual IETE Convention in Kolkata on September 25-26, 2026. IETE has announced that the detailed programme and specific award presentation schedule will be communicated separately.
Expressing his gratitude, Prof. Raghuwanshi said the recognition was a reflection of the sustained efforts of his students and research collaborators and would encourage him to continue pursuing impactful research in opto-electronics, optical sensing and photonics.
Research focus on optical and photonic technologies
Prof. Raghuwanshi’s research interests include optical sensors, microwave photonics, optical fibre communication, numerical methods for optical waveguides, plasmonic waveguides and speciality optical fibres.
His work broadly focuses on advancing optical and photonic technologies for sensing and communication applications, with research spanning both fundamental and applied aspects of the field.
He was previously honoured with the Outstanding Researcher Award by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2021 for his contributions to optical communication and microwave photonics.
In 2022, he received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Sensors Conference for research on high-sensitivity Fibre Bragg Grating sensors for biomedical applications, including advances in surface plasmon resonance-based fibre sensing.
International research exposure
Prof. Raghuwanshi has also been associated with international academic research through an Erasmus Mundus Postdoctoral Fellowship at City University, London, and has undertaken research engagement in Taiwan.
His latest IETE recognition adds to his record of contributions in opto-electronics, optical communication, fibre-optic sensing and microwave photonics, while further highlighting IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s growing research profile in advanced electronics and photonics.
