Jamshedpur, September 14: A 62-year-old former Tata Steel official, Sandeep Pal, died after allegedly falling from the 10th floor of a residential building at Vijaya Garden Phase-7 under Birsanagar police station in the Baridih area on Monday.
According to family sources, Pal had been experiencing mental stress and depression for some time. He had returned to Jamshedpur around 15 days ago after leaving his daughter at a college in Mumbai, where she had enrolled for B.Com studies.
Family members said Pal remained deeply concerned about his daughter’s education and future.
Former Tata Steel official had retired from service
Pal had earlier served as Chief People Officer (CPO) at Tata Steel’s Merchant Mill before retiring from the company. Following his retirement, he had been living with his family in Jamshedpur.
The incident sent shockwaves through the locality, with relatives, friends and well-wishers gathering at the family’s residence after learning about his death.
Pal was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in a critical condition soon after the incident. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Birsanagar police begin investigation
After receiving information about the incident, Birsanagar police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
Police are also questioning family members and local residents to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The exact cause of the fall has not yet been established. Police said further details would emerge after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.
