Jamshedpur, September 18: Jharkhand is likely to experience another spell of unsettled weather over the next three days, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at isolated places across the state, according to the latest weather assessment.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places on September 18, 19 and 20.
The weather activity is likely to remain scattered, although sudden thunderstorms and lightning could lead to brief but intense spells of rain in affected areas.
The developing weather pattern is being attributed to a combination of atmospheric systems influencing eastern and central India.
A trough extending from the northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal to north Odisha now runs from Sikkim to north Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal, between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level also continues to influence Jharkhand. It currently passes through the centre of a low-pressure area over Saurashtra and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea, Bikaner, Rohtak, Bareilly, Basti, Dehri, Ranchi and Digha before extending southeastwards towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.
Cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal
Another significant development is taking place over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation was prevailing over the region and extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
According to the IMD, the system is likely to emerge over the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the same region around the evening of September 19.
The system is then likely to intensify gradually and move west-northwestwards towards the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent three to four days.
Weather likely to remain changeable
For Jharkhand, the evolving system could influence rainfall and thunderstorm activity in the coming days, particularly as the atmospheric trough and the developing Bay system interact with prevailing monsoon conditions.
Weather officials have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning, particularly in open areas. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may also temporarily affect road travel and outdoor activities at places witnessing thunderstorms.
The latest forecast indicates that the monsoon remains active over the region, with weather conditions likely to remain changeable through the weekend.
