Ranchi, September 24: As many as 93 women students among 142 gold medallists at the third convocation of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU), Ranchi, offered an inspiring picture of the changing India, Jharkhand Governor and Chancellor of state universities Santosh Kumar Gangwar said on Thursday.

Congratulating the degree and medal recipients, Gangwar said the achievement of the women students reflected the growing participation and success of young women across diverse fields. He noted that today’s daughters are demonstrating their talent in education, science, administration, medicine, technology and sports.

The Governor urged the graduates to recognise their potential, move forward with self-confidence and set new benchmarks of excellence.

‘Vidya Dadati Vinayam’ should guide graduates

Highlighting India’s long educational tradition, Gangwar referred to the Sanskrit maxim “Vidya Dadati Vinayam”, meaning that knowledge bestows humility.

He said education should go beyond the accumulation of information and involve reasoning, dialogue, wisdom and the pursuit of truth. He also recalled the contribution of ancient centres of learning such as Nalanda to India’s global knowledge tradition.

Youth must prepare for AI-driven future

The Governor also drew attention to the rapid changes being brought about by Artificial Intelligence, digital technology, biotechnology, space science and automation.

He urged the graduates to prepare themselves to contribute to the creative development and application of technology rather than becoming merely its consumers.

Technological advancement, he said, must remain connected with human sensitivity, ethics and social responsibility.

‘Don’t just seek jobs, create them’

Gangwar also advised the graduating students not to restrict their aspirations to finding employment.

Alongside seeking jobs, he encouraged them to develop the skills, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial capabilities needed to create employment opportunities.

Referring to the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’, he said the youth graduating from universities today would play an important role in shaping the India of 2047.

He urged the students to combine personal aspirations with a commitment to social progress and national development.

Governor asks students to remain humble

Concluding his address, Gangwar advised the graduates to remain humble in success and patient during difficult phases of life.

He said students should reflect not only on “What have I gained?” but also on “What have I contributed to society?”
