Ranchi, September 24: Ranchi is set to host the 5th Mid-term National Conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) from September 25 to 27, marking the first national-level ophthalmology conference in Jharkhand. More than 1,000 ophthalmologists, researchers, academicians and young doctors from across the country are expected to participate in the three-day event at Hotel Chanakya BNR.
A press conference announcing the conference was held on Thursday at the auditorium of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital.
AIOS conference a milestone for Jharkhand
Organizing Secretary Dr. Bharti Kashyap described the hosting of the AIOS mid-term conference in Ranchi as a significant milestone for Jharkhand’s medical and academic community.
“Hosting the 5th Mid-term Conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society in the capital, Ranchi, is a historic moment for Jharkhand. This is the first national conference on ophthalmology in the state.”
She said the conference aims to promote greater access to medical education, research and scientific opportunities beyond major metropolitan centres and help position Ranchi as an emerging academic and scientific hub.
Dr. Bharti Kashyap added that the interaction between ophthalmologists from Jharkhand and experts from across the country would help young doctors gain exposure to modern medical and surgical techniques, ultimately strengthening access to advanced eye care within the state.
Focus on advanced eye care and complex surgeries
Organising Chairman Dr. B. P. Kashyap said the three-day conference would mark an important new phase for ophthalmology in Jharkhand, with leading experts sharing their experience and latest techniques with local and young doctors.
Dr. Pritesh Pranoy said the conference would include detailed discussions on state-of-the-art surgical procedures and approaches to complex eye disorders.
“By interacting with surgeons of national repute, our local doctors will gain practical experience in handling the most complex cases, directly benefiting patients here,” he said.
Young ophthalmologists, researchers to get academic platform
Dr. Nilendu Mishra said the conference would provide a valuable academic platform for young ophthalmologists and postgraduate students.
Special scientific sessions, case discussions and academic programmes will provide participants with exposure to contemporary research and clinical guidelines, he said.
Dr. Sujet Samanta highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence, advanced diagnostics and new laser technologies in ophthalmology, saying the conference would enable doctors from Jharkhand to engage directly with emerging technologies and developments in the field.
Three-day programme from September 25
The conference will feature sessions on advanced ophthalmology, modern treatment techniques, scientific research, complex eye disorders, surgical techniques and specialised academic programmes for young doctors.
The organisers said the event would also provide an opportunity to showcase Jharkhand’s expanding medical, academic and scientific capabilities before a national audience.
The conference will be inaugurated on September 25 at 6 pm at the Utsav Hall, BNR Chanakya.
Health Minister Irfan Ansari will be the Chief Guest, while IMA President-Elect Dr. Deepak Dhar Choudhary and Health Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh will attend as Guests of Honour.
