Dhanbad, October 5: Prof. Ram Madhab Bhattacharjee, Professor of Mining Engineering and Advisor and former Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been conferred a prestigious award by the Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) for his contributions to the mining sector.
The award was presented at the MGMI’s annual awards ceremony held at Taj City Centre, Kolkata, on September 27. It recognises Prof. Bhattacharjee’s contribution to the mining industry, particularly in the areas of mine safety, sustainable mining and efficient mine operations.
Prof. Bhattacharjee has a long-standing association with mine safety and emergency management. Among his notable professional achievements is his role in leading the recovery of a collapsed longwall face under complex strata conditions.
The operation helped prevent major losses involving heavy longwall machinery. He was subsequently recognised with a Republic Day Award for the achievement.
He has also received special commendation certificates from mining directorates and corporate managements for his work in underground face recovery and emergency mine stabilisation.
