Monsoon withdrawal advances in Jharkhand, rain likely for two more days

PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, October 9: The southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and several other states, even as cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall are likely to persist across Jharkhand over the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In its latest bulletin, the IMD said the monsoon had withdrawn from the remaining parts of Maharashtra, some areas of Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha, as well as additional parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The current withdrawal line passes through Supaul, Ranchi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bijapur, Hyderabad, Belagavi and Panjim before extending into the Arabian Sea.

Meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal from additional parts of eastern India, the northern peninsula and large areas of northeast India over the next three to four days.

Rain Likely Despite Advancing Monsoon Withdrawal

Despite the advancing withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, atmospheric systems are likely to sustain rainfall activity in Jharkhand over the next two days.

The IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies, accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers, on October 9.

On October 10, partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in the southeastern parts of the state.

The prevailing weather conditions are being influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar and its neighbourhood, extending between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level.

A trough extending from this circulation towards Telangana, across Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, is also contributing to the prevailing atmospheric conditions.

Another upper-air cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh persists up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Temperatures Likely to Rise Gradually

The IMD has forecast no significant change in maximum temperatures across Jharkhand over the next two days. However, maximum temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the subsequent three days.

Minimum temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged over the next five days.

The gradual withdrawal of the monsoon is expected to make rainfall activity more scattered in the coming days. However, localised showers may continue under the influence of prevailing atmospheric systems.

The evolving weather pattern indicates a gradual transition towards drier conditions, although intermittent rain and thundershowers may continue in parts of Jharkhand in the immediate term.
