Ranchi, October 22: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Thursday highlighted the state’s identity as the ‘Land of Archery’, praising its talented sportspersons for bringing laurels to Jharkhand at national and international levels. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 15th All India Police Archery Championship at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Khelgaon, Ranchi.
The Governor said archery demands concentration, patience, precision and unwavering commitment to the target. These qualities are equally important in police service, where accurate assessment of situations, sound decision-making and dedication to duty are essential for an effective policing system.
He urged the participating players to give their best, maintaining discipline, dedication and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Jharkhand’s Archery Legacy and Sporting Talent
Gangwar said Jharkhand had earned recognition as the ‘Land of Archery’, with its talented athletes enhancing the state’s reputation through their achievements at national and international levels.
Referring to efforts to promote sports under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said considerable emphasis had been placed on strengthening the country’s sporting culture and providing young people with opportunities to showcase their abilities.
Initiatives such as Khelo India, he added, had helped increase awareness about sports and create opportunities for emerging talent.

Governor Stresses Modern Policing and Cybercrime Prevention
Describing the police force as the backbone of the country’s internal security system, Gangwar said maintaining law and order, preventing crime and protecting the lives and property of citizens were among its principal responsibilities.
He observed that crime was evolving rapidly, making the effective use of modern technology, scientific methods and advanced tools increasingly important. Effective policing, he said, involved not only responding to crimes but also preventing offences and strengthening public confidence in the security system.
Warning against cybercrime and digital fraud, the Governor drew attention to suspicious APK files sent to mobile phones in the name of traffic challans and other official notifications. Such files were being used to dupe people, he said.
He urged citizens not to open suspicious APK files and to verify such notifications through official channels. He also emphasised that technological competence within the police force must be complemented by public awareness to prevent cybercrime.
Sports Vital for Police Personnel’s Physical and Mental Fitness
The Governor said police personnel needed mental resilience, discipline, patience and the ability to make quick decisions, in addition to physical fitness.
Regular participation in sports and exercise, he noted, helped improve physical and mental health and enabled personnel to maintain composure and confidence in challenging situations.
He also stressed that trust and cooperation between the police and the public were essential for effective policing. Listening sensitively to citizens’ grievances and assuring them of their safety, he said, were important aspects of police responsibility.
National Championship to Foster Team Spirit
Gangwar said the responsibility of hosting the national championship being entrusted to Jharkhand Police was a matter of pride for the state.
The All India Police Archery Championship provides participants from different states and police forces with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, exchange experiences and learn from one another.
Such competitions, he said, promote healthy competition, mutual goodwill and team spirit among police personnel.
