PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, October 27: The East Singhbhum district administration has ordered the suspension of classes in all government, government-aided, minority and private schools on October 28 and 29 (Wednesday and Thursday) in view of the warning of cyclonic storm Arnab and the forecast of heavy rainfall.
The order applies to students from pre-primary to Class XII. The administration has taken the precautionary measure to ensure students’ safety amid forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of Jharkhand.
According to a district administration notification, the India Meteorological Department’s Ranchi centre has warned of the possibility of severe weather in several districts, placing East Singhbhum in the orange alert zone.
The forecast indicates the possibility of thunderstorms, strong winds and torrential rain.
Schools to Decide on Scheduled Examinations
The administration has clarified that school managements may decide whether to conduct examinations already scheduled for the two days, depending on the prevailing circumstances and their assessment of the situation.
However, teachers and other school staff will be required to attend their respective schools on the scheduled dates and carry out non-academic duties as directed.
Order Issued Under Disaster Management Act
The order has been issued under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in view of the anticipated adverse weather conditions and the need to ensure students’ safety.
Classes will remain suspended in all categories of schools across the district on both days.
The administration has urged schools and parents to take the weather warning seriously and prioritise children’s safety.
