Jamshedpur, October 30: The remnants of very severe cyclonic storm Arnab continued to influence Jharkhand’s weather on Friday, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the state. Meanwhile, a fresh weather system over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is showing signs of intensification and is likely to develop into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 31.
Low-Pressure System Brings Heavy Rain to Parts of Jharkhand
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions of East Madhya Pradesh had weakened into a low-pressure area by 8.30 am on October 30. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at most places across Jharkhand, while isolated pockets experienced heavy rainfall.
Latehar’s Balumath AWS recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 111.5 mm during the past 24 hours, highlighting the continuing impact of the weather system.
According to the meteorological department, Dumka AWS recorded the highest maximum temperature at 27.6 degrees Celsius, while Latehar AWS registered the lowest minimum temperature at 17.6 degrees Celsius.
Fresh Low-Pressure System Likely to Intensify Over Bay
Meanwhile, another weather system over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is showing signs of intensification.
The low-pressure area persisted over the same region on Friday morning, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
The IMD has indicated that the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands around October 31.
It is subsequently expected to move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the following two days.
A trough extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh is also influencing the prevailing weather pattern.
Rainfall Activity Likely to Ease Over Next Few Days
For Jharkhand, the IMD has forecast shallow to moderate fog during morning hours, with generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely at many places on October 30.
Rainfall activity is expected to become less widespread over the next few days, with light to moderate showers likely at a few places on October 31, November 1 and 2.
The maximum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged during the next five days.
