Jamshedpur, November 2: Acting on a tip-off from the Department of Telecommunications, the Jamshedpur Cyber Crime Police Station arrested three people for allegedly facilitating cybercrime, including a Jio company employee.
The arrested accused were identified as Raunak Kumar and Sunny Kumar Sao, both 19-year-old point-of-sale (POS) agents, and Prakash Kumar, 33, an employee of Jio.
City SP Lalit Meena said the two POS agents allegedly targeted customers who visited their shops to obtain SIM cards. They would process a customer’s KYC details more than once but issue only one SIM card. The additional KYC records were then allegedly used to obtain extra SIM cards, which were passed on to cybercriminals with the help of the Jio employee.
According to Meena, the SIM cards were allegedly used to commit bank fraud and other cybercrimes.
The information was brought to the notice of Senior SP Ehtesham Waqarib, who directed the Cyber Crime Police Station to investigate the matter after a case was registered in connection with the alleged fraud.
Cyber Crime Police Station Inspector Shriniwash investigated the case and arrested the three accused, Meena said.
Police seized five mobile phones and nine SIM cards from their possession.
