Jamshedpur, November 3: A prominent doctor was seriously injured in an alleged shooting in Adityapur late on Monday night, triggering panic in the locality.
Dr OP Anand, director of 111 Save Life Hospital, sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he is undergoing treatment. His condition was reported to be critical.
The suspected assailant is his brother, Satya Prakash Sudhanshu, who runs Gayatri Shiksha Niketan. Preliminary information suggests that a family dispute may have led to the shooting, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Police personnel from Adityapur police station reached the spot after receiving information about the firing and launched an investigation. Officers are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Preliminary findings point to a possible dispute between the brothers, who reportedly live on the same premises. However, police have not officially confirmed the motive or established what happened before the shot was fired.
Investigators are also trying to determine who was present at the scene and the circumstances in which the firearm was used. Details about the weapon allegedly used and the accused’s whereabouts were not immediately available. Police said further action would be taken based on evidence and statements gathered during the investigation.
Doctor was earlier involved in controversy
Dr Anand was earlier embroiled in a controversy involving Congress leader and former Jharkhand health minister Banna Gupta during the second wave of Covid-19 in May 2021.
The controversy followed a health department inspection of 111 Save Life Hospital, ordered by the then health minister after complaints of alleged overcharging of Covid patients and other irregularities.
Dr Anand reportedly made objectionable remarks against Gupta and the inspection team, triggering a political and administrative row. He was subsequently arrested and sent to jail before securing bail from the Jharkhand High Court in September 2021.
The matter later reached the Supreme Court, which rejected the state government’s appeal against the High Court’s order.
