Jamshedpur, Jan 2: Jamshedpur Truck Trailer Owners Association has raised its apprehensions regarding the recently introduced Motor Vehicle Act and Indian Penal Code 104 A law by the Central Government. The association expressed strong reservations about the potential misuse and abuse of this legislation, highlighting the need for a more thoughtful approach. In protest against the move of the Government, over 2000 drivers went on strike.
Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, the association asserted that while the law is seemingly aimed at commercial and larger vehicles, it encompasses drivers of two-wheelers and four-wheelers as well. The central government’s introduction of this law was criticized for its complexity and lack of clarity. The association emphasized the importance of a simple and easily comprehensible legal framework that serves as a protective shield for every driver in the interest of public safety.
“The Jamshedpur Truck Trailer Owners Association declares its unwavering support for every vehicle driver. The drivers are not willing to drive vehicles unless steps are taken to safeguard their safety,” said Satvir Singh Somu, chairman, Jamshedpur Truck Trailer Owners Association.

He delved into concerns about the responsibility of drivers in the event of an accident and the potential financial losses for vehicle owners. The organisation questioned the administration’s preparedness to handle the consequences of the law and stressed the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the multiple factors contributing to road accidents.
A particular point of contention highlighted by the association was the provision in the law that stipulates 10 years of imprisonment for a driver who leaves the accident scene and 5 years if they take the injured person to the hospital, along with financial penalties. With over 20 lakh bus and truck drivers and a significantly larger number in the general public, the association underscored the potentially dire consequences of the law.
The press conference featured key representatives of the Jamshedpur Truck Trailer Owners Association, including President Jasveer Singh Sira, General Secretary Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Co-Secretary Pradeep Sharma, and other prominent officials. The association called for a reconsideration and revision of the law to address their concerns and ensure a fair and just legal framework for all drivers.
