New Delhi, Jan 21: Star batsman Harry Brook will miss the India Test series because of personal reasons, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed on Sunday.

“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India. The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course,” the ECB said in a statement announcing Brook’s withdrawal.

Having played 45 matches across formats for England since making his Test debut in September 2022, Brook has been an important member of the England team.

Ben Stokes will captain a revamped England Test side for the upcoming series. The series will begin with the first Test on January 25 in Hyderabad, and it will end on March 11 with the fifth and final Test taking place in Dharamshala.

Ben Foakes, the wicketkeeper, was called up in the meanwhile after being dropped out of the Ashes team last year. The other wicketkeeper for the team is Jonny Bairstow. Jack Leach and Ollie Pope are also back from their injuries.

England Test squad for India series: Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Joe Root, Mark Wood, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jonny Bairstow, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed.
