Apple warned certain opposition members that they were “being targeted by state-sponsored attackers,” and as a result, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT is considering summoning Apple representatives, as per sources.

According to sources, the committee’s secretariat is handling the issue with the highest level of seriousness.

There are 31 members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, led by Shiv Sena Member Prataprao Jadhav.

The next meeting date of the committee has not yet been determined.

An alert about some attackers “trying to remotely compromise” their device was sent to some opposition leaders by the US multinational company Apple.

Among those who received warnings from Apple were Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shashi Tharoor, Pawan Khera, Sitaram Yechury, Akhilesh Yadav, KC Venugopal, and “people in Rahul Gandhi’s office”.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi charged that the government was attempting to distract the public.

Apple subsequently stated that it did not associate the threat notifications with any particular state-sponsored attacker.

“State-sponsored attackers are very well-funded and sophisticated, and their attacks evolve over time. Detecting such attacks relies on threat intelligence signals that are often imperfect and incomplete. It’s possible that some Apple threat notifications may be false alarms, or that some attacks are not detected,” Apple said in a statement.
