AHMEDABAD, June 2: In a major step towards strengthening para-sports and promoting an inclusive sporting culture in India, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG), the Archery Association of India (AAI), and the Gujarat State Archery Association (GSAA) for the organisation of the prestigious Hyundai World Archery Para Series 2026.

The international para-archery competition will be held in Ahmedabad from September 3 to September 10, 2026, bringing together leading para-archers from around the world. The event is expected to provide a platform for sporting excellence while highlighting the talent, determination, confidence, and resilience of athletes with disabilities on the global stage.

Senior Leaders Attend MoU Signing Ceremony

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Arjun Munda, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and President of the Archery Association of India, and Harsh Sanghavi, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Their presence underscored the importance of the event and reflected the growing commitment to the development of para-sports in India.

Promoting Inclusivity Through Sport

The Hyundai World Archery Para Series is being positioned as more than a sporting competition. Organisers said the event represents a global message of inclusivity, equal opportunity, and social empowerment.

The tournament will provide athletes with disabilities an opportunity to compete at the highest international level, further develop their skills, and represent their countries on a prestigious platform. It is also expected to reinforce the message that sports celebrate talent, dedication, and determination, regardless of physical limitations.

Boost for Para-Archery and Sports Development

India has made significant progress in para-sports in recent years, and hosting the Hyundai World Archery Para Series is expected to contribute to the continued growth of para-archery in the country.

The event is also anticipated to inspire young athletes and highlight Gujarat’s expanding capabilities in sports infrastructure, sports tourism, and the hosting of major international sporting events.

Dignitaries Present

The event was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries, including:

  • Rahul Babulal Gupta, Secretary, Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, Government of Gujarat
  • I.R. Wala, Secretary and Director General, Sports Authority of Gujarat
  • Virendra Nanavati, Chairman, World Archery Para Series
