Abhishek Sharma climbs to no. 1 in ICC T20I Rankings

Dubai, July 30: Abhishek Sharma has become only the third Indian batter to claim the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings, joining Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in an elite list.

The 24-year-old left-handed opener now leads the charts with 829 rating points, overtaking Australia’s Travis Head (814) and teammate Tilak Varma (804).

The young star’s explosive run of form, which includes two centuries and two fifties in 17 T20Is at a remarkable strike rate of 193.84, has powered his rise to the top.

His recent performances against South Africa and England proved decisive in dethroning Head, who had occupied the No. 1 spot since surpassing Suryakumar Yadav during last year’s T20 World Cup but has been inactive since September.

Other Indians making their mark in the rankings include Tilak Varma at No. 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at No. 6, while Yashasvi Jaiswal narrowly misses the top 10, sitting at No. 11.

Abhishek announced himself on the international stage last year with a brilliant century against Zimbabwe, but his latest exploits have cemented his reputation as one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format.
