New Delhi, Jan 24: Achyut Ghatak has taken over as the new Director (Technical) of Coal India Ltd (CIL), the government-owned company announced on Friday.
He takes over the position from B Veera Reddy, who retired in August last year. During the interim period, CIL Chairman P M Prasad held the additional responsibility for the role.
Before assuming his new position, Ghatak served at the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) in Ranchi, which is a consultancy arm of CIL.

He also gained experience at CIL’s corporate headquarters, where he worked as General Manager for Project Monitoring and Corporate Planning.
Ghatak, a 1989 graduate in mining engineering from the Government College of Engineering & Technology, Raipur, began his career as a Junior Executive Trainee at Western Coalfields Limited. He earned a first-class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency in 1993.
Ghatak has vast expertise in mechanized underground mining and was instrumental in developing CIL’s underground vision plan and strategy to achieve a coal production target of 1 billion tonnes.
