Advanced training of IIT ISM Dhanbad’s 3rd batch commences in Russia

Dhanbad, July 1: The third batch of students from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has begun advanced training at St. Petersburg Mining University, Russia, as part of the Indo-Russian Academic Collaboration initiative. The specialized programme commenced on June 30 and will continue until July 13.

Programme coordinator Prof. Saurabh Datta Gupta, Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Geophysics, stated that 12 students and scholars are participating in the current batch. “This programme offers an excellent opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience,” he said.

Comprehensive Curriculum with Global Exposure

The curriculum includes interactive lectures, hands-on training sessions, master classes, industrial visits, and cultural immersion activities. According to Prof. Gupta, this holistic approach is designed to enhance both academic understanding and professional preparedness in the field of mining and energy.

The initiative is supported through a grant from the International Centre for Competence in Mining Engineering Education, under the patronage of UNESCO, with additional support from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

Participation from Six IIT ISM Departments

Six departments from IIT (ISM) are participating in the Summer/Winter School Programme: Applied Geology (AGL), Applied Geophysics (AGP), Mining Engineering (MNE), Petroleum Engineering (PE), Chemical Engineering (CHE), and Fuel, Mineral and Metallurgical Engineering (FMME).

Earlier, the first batch of nine students underwent training on ‘Petroleum Geology’ from June 16 to June 29. The second batch of 13 students and scholars is currently undergoing training on ‘Current Trends in the Oil and Gas Industry’ from June 26 to July 6.

More Batches to Follow

Following the third batch, a fourth group of eight students will begin training on ‘Management in the Mineral Resource Complex’ from July 14 to July 27. Each batch is part of the broader effort to enhance international academic cooperation and expose students to evolving global trends in mining and energy sectors.
