New Delhi, Nov 29: Avtar Singh Kochar was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday in connection with both the money laundering and MCOCA cases.

He is charged in connection with the alleged Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and Sukesh Chandrasekar.

For the previous two years, he was under custody.

Bail granted considering age, health, detention period

After taking into account Avtar Singh Kochar’s age, medical conditions and length of incarceration, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma granted him bail.

The high court also took into account the submissions presented by the accused, stating that the trial is not expected to be completed in the immediate future.

In the process of granting bail, the High Court mandated the accused to submit a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh and two surety bonds, each of the same amount, for each case.

HC imposes certain conditions

The high court set some restrictions and conditions, one of which was that he had to get the court’s approval before leaving the nation. He is also prohibited from attempting to exert any influence on any witness, either directly or indirectly. Additionally, he must share his contact number with the Investigating Officer of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) and register his attendance at the EOW office.

Arrested for Rs 200 crore extortion

Kochar, 69, is one of the accused in the MCOCA case that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has filed. A case had been filed by Delhi police in response to Aditi Singh’s allegation that claimed that she had been extorted out of Rs 200 crore.

Jacqueline Fernandez was summoned based on ED probe

Sukesh Chandrasekar and several other accused individuals were apprehended by the Delhi police, who subsequently filed a charge sheet.

Following this, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted its own inquiry under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after filing a complaint.

Upon acknowledging the charge sheet filed by the ED, a special court in New Delhi issued summons to Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and other accused parties.

Jacqueline Fernandez attended the court hearing and was granted bail by the special judge at Patiala House Court in New Delhi.

Both cases are currently being reviewed by a special judge.
