Babulal Marandi hits out at Jharkhand govt over ‘illegal DGP’ row

Ranchi, Nov 18: BJP State President and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi on Monday raised a series of questions regarding the administrative decisions involving former DGP Anurag Gupta, calling for transparency and an official inquiry. Marandi said the public deserved an explanation for the sequence of events that saw Gupta suspended, later appointed as DGP, given an extension after retirement, and eventually resigning.

Marandi said the timeline had created confusion among citizens and that government clarification would help dispel speculation. He noted that various allegations had surfaced in the public domain and said an inquiry would bring clarity.

Concerns About Tenure and Associated Decisions

According to Marandi, concerns had been expressed regarding Gupta’s reported associations and administrative decisions during his tenure, including certain postings and internal appointments. He mentioned several individuals during the press conference, saying their roles during the period should be examined. He emphasised that an independent review mechanism would help ensure accountability.

Liquor-Related Investigations Cited

Marandi referred to ongoing investigations relating to liquor distribution and alleged procedural delays. He said he had previously written to the Chief Minister seeking action and claimed that delays in the filing of a charge sheet had affected the case. Greater transparency in such matters, he said, would strengthen public trust.

Call for Review of Regulatory and Enforcement Actions

Marandi also pointed to concerns surrounding the circulation of unauthorised pharmaceutical products in the state and said enforcement decisions in these cases should be reviewed. He added that any allegations linked to official intervention should be examined to ensure established procedures had been followed.

Importance of Record Integrity and Protocols

Discussing broader administrative protocols, Marandi said that the handling of documents and digital data during transfers of charge should follow strict procedures. Ensuring the integrity of official records, he said, was central to maintaining confidence in governance systems.

References to Criminal Custody Decisions

He also mentioned decisions regarding the placement of certain inmates in custody, stating that such placements typically follow defined security considerations. Any deviations, he said, should be reviewed to ensure compliance with guidelines.

Call for a Formal Inquiry

Marandi concluded by stating that a formal inquiry into all related matters would reinforce transparency and accountability in the state’s administrative processes. He urged officials to perform their duties strictly in accordance with the law.

State BJP co-media in-charge Yogendra Pratap Singh and spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo were present at the briefing.
