Dhaka, August 5: Protesters have breached the residence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has left Dhaka. Reportedly, she has resigned as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and left the country along with her sister Sheikh Rehana.

According to the latest reports from local media in Bangladesh and Reuters, Sheikh Hasina has reportedly travelled to a location in India. However, there has been no official confirmation of this.

The media outlet ProthomAlo reported that Sheikh Hasina’s military helicopter departed from Bangabhaban, the official residence of the President of Bangladesh, at 2:30 PM local time today.

There is growing speculation that the military may take control of the country.

The violence over reservations that has plagued Bangladesh for several days shows no signs of abating. The government has taken severe measures to suppress the protests, but public dissatisfaction with Sheikh Hasina has continued to rise.

According to reports, a curfew has been imposed in Bangladesh. Military personnel are attempting to control the protests. So far, over 100 people have been killed amid protests in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 2009. During the recent elections in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina faced allegations of large-scale irregularities to secure her victory.
