Daltonganj, Nov 26: The number of tigers in the Palamu Tiger Reserve has reached two after the arrival of one more big cat a week back. Both the big cats are males and have come from Chhattisgarh.
PTR Field Director Kumar Ashutosh has confirmed the presence of the two tigers in this reserve. He said the latest arrival, a week ago or so, has also been camera-trapped.
1 tiger arrived in March
The field director said that there had come a tiger here in the month of March which too was camera-trapped. However, this tiger vanished from the reserve after 8 or 9 days. So, this year saw the arrival of 3 tigers so far-one in the month of March and two in November.
The field director said, “Our men in the reserve have found the kill. I will desist from giving the location of the kill as it may put the tigers at peril.”

Similarly, Ashutosh declined to name the range and division of the tiger reserve where these two tigers are residing.
He explained, “There is no cause of worry about doubling of the tigers. All three tigers are different from each other. It is their stripes that make it distinct and different from others.”
Their getting camera trapped has come as a shot in the arm of the PTR officials as the Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun insists on the camera-trapped images of the tigers to believe its presence or movement in the tiger reserve.
