Daltonganj, September 4: Birla Open Minds International School, Daltonganj, organised a felicitation programme for nearly a dozen retired school and college teachers, honouring their contribution to education and society ahead of Teachers’ Day.
The programme, originally scheduled for September 3, was held despite the district administration declaring a holiday for all academic and teaching activities in government and private schools from kindergarten to Class 12 that day in view of the forecast of heavy rain.
The school management decided to go ahead with the pre-announced felicitation programme while observing the holiday for regular academic activities. Invitations had already been extended to the retired teachers.
School principal Anurag Upadhyay, vice-principal Anupama Tiwary and their team coordinated the programme. The event brought together retired teachers from both schools and colleges, providing an opportunity to acknowledge their contribution to shaping generations of students.
A cultural programme was also organised, with students presenting a Bharatanatyam performance.
Upadhyay said noted wildlife expert and former GLA College principal D.S. Srivastav could not attend the programme.
School exploring new initiatives
Birla Open Minds International School currently provides education up to Class 8 and has around 300 students, according to the principal. The school is also working towards securing CBSE affiliation.
Dr Rahul Agrawal of the Agrawal House, which manages the school, said the institution was exploring an initiative to bring students face-to-face with journalists regularly.
Under the proposed programme, students would get an opportunity to interview journalists once a month, giving them exposure to current affairs, communication skills and the functioning of the media.
The school is run and managed by the Agarwal family in Daltonganj, which is also associated with a multi-speciality hospital.
