Dhanbad, April 27: In a poignant display of unity and compassion, teachers and students of Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT), Sindri organised a silent candle march on Saturday to protest against the heinous attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The candle march began from the administrative building of the BIT Sindri campus, with hundreds of students and faculty members coming together to express their grief and solidarity with the victims. The silent procession went through the entire campus before culminating at the central lawn, where heartfelt tributes were paid.
A Call for Peace and Unity
Participants carried flickering candles, posters, and banners that advocated peace, unity, and the eradication of terrorism. The sombre atmosphere reflected the deep concern and sensitivity of the youth towards issues of national importance and human suffering.
Speaking on the occasion, BIT Sindri Director Dr. Pankaj Rai praised the students for their initiative and expressed the institute’s unwavering belief in peace and non-violence. “It is crucial to nurture a generation that firmly rejects violence in all its forms,” he said.
Faculty Stands with Students
Senior faculty members, including CDC Chairman Prof. (Dr.) Ghanshyam and Prof. R.K. Verma also participated in the march. They reiterated the need for collective action and the firm condemnation of terrorism to safeguard humanity and foster peaceful coexistence.

Students emphasised that the silent march served as a powerful reminder that educational institutions are deeply connected to the socio-political fabric of the nation.
