Ranchi, April 18: Jharkhand BJP State President Aditya Sahu has said there will be “no compromise” on women’s safety and demanded the death penalty for those involved in heinous crimes, including the gang-rape of a RIMS dental student.

He alleged that the Hemant Soren government is “blinded by appeasement politics” and said criminals must be treated strictly as criminals.

BJP announces protest plan

The BJP has announced a two-day protest in Ranchi. A torchlight procession will be held on April 19 at 5:30 pm from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk.

On April 20 at 11 am, BJP workers will stage a protest and lay siege to the Ranchi SSP office. The protest will be organised jointly by the BJP Ranchi Mahanagar, Ranchi East and Ranchi West units.

Rising outrage over crimes

The state, including Ranchi, is witnessing strong public anger over the gang-rape of the dental student at RIMS. The BJP Mahila Morcha units in Ranchi have been holding continuous protests over the issue.

Sahu also referred to an alleged incident involving a three-year-old girl in the Kotwali police station area, saying such cases reflect the “collapse of law and order” in the state.

Sharp attack on state government

Sahu claimed crimes against women are increasing rapidly and alleged that strict action was not taken in earlier cases, which emboldened criminals.

He said over 10,000 rape cases have been reported during the tenure of the present government.

He further alleged bias in handling such cases and said FIRs are often filed as a formality, allowing accused persons to secure bail and repeat crimes.

Sahu demanded speedy trials and strict punishment, including the death penalty, for those involved in such crimes to ensure deterrence.
