Patna, May 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician Pawan Singh for contesting as an independent candidate in the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency, going against the party’s chosen candidate from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The expulsion of Pawan Singh resulted from his earlier announcement that he intended to run as an independent for the Karakat seat.
BJP cites anti-party activity
The Bihar BJP sent Singh a letter stating, “You are contesting the Lok Sabha elections against the official candidate of the NDA. This act of yours is against the party, which has tarnished the party’s image and violated party discipline. Therefore, as per the orders of the Honorable State President, you are expelled from the party for this anti-party activity.”

In response to the decision, state BJP president and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, stated, “It’s obvious if someone contests election against the party, such actions are taken at the party’s level.”
Karakat to vote on June 1
The Karakat constituency will cast its votes on June 1, during the seventh and final phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has fielded Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha as its candidate for this seat.
Pawan Singh was earlier given a BJP ticket from Asansol in West Bengal, but he declined to run for that seat.
