Jamshedpur, Jan 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday staged a protest march in Jamshedpur, alleging a steady deterioration in the city’s law and order situation.
As part of a pre-announced programme, BJP leaders and workers took out an agitation march from the BJP district headquarters to the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Piyush Pandey.
East Jamshedpur MLA Purnima Das Sahu led the march, which drew a large number of party workers. Raising slogans against the district administration, the protesters alleged a sharp rise in criminal activities across the city.

‘Fear Among Public, Confidence of Criminals Rising’
Addressing the gathering outside the SSP office, BJP leaders claimed that frequent incidents of crime have created an atmosphere of fear among residents, while the morale of criminals continues to rise due to what they described as administrative inaction.
Warning of Statewide Agitation
The BJP warned that if the law and order situation does not improve at the earliest, the party would be compelled to launch a statewide agitation across Jharkhand.
Reference to 1992 Protest
The leaders termed the protest historically significant, recalling that in 1992 the BJP had staged a similar gherao of the SP office over the same issue, when Parvez Hayat was the Superintendent of Police.
After a gap of 32 years, the party once again surrounded the SSP office to mount pressure on the district administration, demanding immediate and effective steps to restore public safety and confidence.
