New Delhi, July 25: Parliamentary proceedings were disrupted once again on Friday as both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned following continued protests by Opposition members demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar ahead of state elections.

Lok Sabha, which was first adjourned at 11 AM till 2 PM, could not function thereafter and was adjourned for the day. It will reconvene on July 28 at 11 AM.
Rajya Sabha proceedings were also halted after sloganeering persisted, forcing an adjournment until Monday.

Opposition MPs have sought a debate on multiple issues, including the SIR exercise, but the impasse has stalled key business.

In the lower house, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was in the chair, appealed to members to maintain order and allow the introduction of private members’ bills, stressing that Fridays are reserved for such discussions. He urged MPs to consider whether disruptions serve the public interest.
Before the adjournment, Lok Sabha briefly took up ‘The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024.’
Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla called an all-party meeting earlier in the day to end the deadlock, emphasizing the need for dialogue and smooth conduct of business, including the upcoming 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor scheduled for July 28.
In the Rajya Sabha, protests intensified during Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s response to a question, prompting BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, presiding over the session, to adjourn proceedings.

Earlier, several MPs had moved notices under Rule 267 seeking suspension of business for a discussion on the Bihar voter list revision. Deputy Chairman Harivansh reminded members of decorum rules and warned against interruptions, calling it a breach of privilege.
Amid the disruptions, Kamal Haasan, actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief, took oath as a Rajya Sabha member in Tamil, alongside DMK leaders Rajathi, SR Sivalingam, and P Wilson.
