Ranchi, January 31: Transport Minister Champai Soren will succeed Hemant Soren after the latter resigned following the ED action in the land scam.

A Raj Bhawan communique said that Governor CP Radhakrishnan has accepted Hemant Soren’s resignation.

Champai alongwith Congress MLA Alamgir Alam said he staked a claim to form the government. “We have submitted a list of 43 MLAs,” he added.

The Governor has assured us that he will invite me to form the government soon, he added.

Earlier, Health Minister Banna Gupta said we elected Champai Soren our legislative party leader.

JMM central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the Governor should administer the oath of office to Champai Soren tonight itself.

Champai Soren is the eldest son of Simal Soren, a farmer from the Jilinggoda village in the Saraikela-Kharsawan district. Champai Soren has also worked on his farms alongside his father. He received education up to the 10th grade from a government school. During this time, he got married at a young age and had four sons and three daughters.
