Jamshedpur, Nov 2: A low-intensity earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Jharkhand this morning.
The epicentre of the earthquake was near Chakradharpur in neighbouring West Singhbhum district, about 13 Kms away from Kharsawan and 60 Km from Jamshedpur.
Earthquake tremors were felt in Jamshedpur and several other places in Kokhan region comprising three districts – East Singhbhum, West Sibghbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.
The New Delhi-based National Centre for Seismology which keeps a tab on earthquakes confirmed the tremor which took place at 9.20 am and lasted for about four seconds.
Talking to The Jharkhand Story a senior official at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre, said, “The National Centre for Seismology which gets automated data from its observatories based in Pune, Khunti and Bokaro has confirmed the earthquake which was of low intensity. It caused no damages.”
The earthquake was expected to occur at a depth of 10-12 Km under the earth’s crust.
