New Delhi, Feb 3: As soon as the Lok Sabha proceedings began on Monday, opposition parties raised the issue of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh stampede. Opposition MPs started raising slogans, demanding a discussion on the Mahakumbh incident. They entered the Well of the House and chanted slogans against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In response, Speaker Om Birla advised the opposition to allow the Question Hour to continue. He pointed out that the President had also mentioned the Mahakumbh incident in his address.

Om Birla said that the opposition could speak on this issue during the discussion on the motion of thanks. He then proceeded with the Question Hour.

In this context, he advised the opposition, stating that if they believed the people of the country had sent them to disrupt the Question Hour, they could continue doing so.

Despite the opposition’s uproar and sloganeering, the proceedings of the House continued.

Meanwhile, the Budget Session’s second-day proceedings began in the Rajya Sabha, where opposition MPs walked out in protest over the Mahakumbh stampede incident.

A stampede broke out at the Mahakumbh Mela during the second Shahi Snan on Mouni Amavasya, resulting in at least 30 fatalities and injuring around 60 people.
