New Delhi, Oct 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Senior Divisional Engineer of North Eastern Railway in Varanasi for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe.
The CBI registered a case on October 1 based on a complaint alleging that the accused official had awarded two tenders, worth around Rs. 4 crore, to the complainant’s private firm on July 25, 2024, for maintaining railway tracks from Thawe to Chhapra.
The official reportedly demanded a Rs. 2 lakh bribe, threatening to block the work and withhold future bill payments if the bribe was not paid.

The CBI set up a trap and apprehended the accused while he was demanding and accepting an illicit payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant.
The CBI also carried out searches at the accused’s residence.
