Three IAS aspirants died due to drowning on July 27
After heavy rainfall on July 27, Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala lost their lives due to drowning when water surged into the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar.
The high court observed in its order that Delhi’s physical infrastructure, including drains, is not only inadequate but also poorly maintained. It pointed out that recent incidents have highlighted that its directives to civic agencies are not being implemented properly and are being ignored as if they have no impact.
The High Court further condemned the public authorities for their lack of effectiveness and criticized the Delhi Police for arresting Manuj Kathuria, the SUV driver allegedly responsible for the flooding of the coaching centre basement. The bench described the action against him as unfair.
