THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, March 24: The central government has issued a notification regarding the increase in the salaries, daily allowances, and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs). The most significant aspect is that this increase will be effective from April 1, 2023.

According to the notification, the monthly salary of each MP has been raised from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000. The daily allowance has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500.

As for the pensions of former MPs, it has been raised from ₹25,000 to ₹31,000 per month.

Additionally, for former MPs with more than five years of service, their additional pension has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per month.

Previously, the salaries and allowances of MPs were increased in April 2018. It is noteworthy that the recent hike has been made in accordance with the Cost Inflation Index.

This decision follows the guidelines established after 2018, under which MPs’ salaries and allowances are reviewed every five years. The review process takes inflation rates into account.

Currently, MPs receive an allowance of ₹70,000 as constituency allowance. In addition, they are provided ₹60,000 per month as office allowance and ₹2,000 daily allowance during parliamentary sessions. These allowances are also set to increase.
