Jamshedpur, Nov 27: The matter of wild elephants’ deaths in Mosabani and Chakulia jungles in the Ghatsila sub-division of the East Singhbhum district has reached to the central government.
A central government team set up by the Home Ministry carried out a spot inspection by visiting the Mosabani and Chakulia areas on Sunday.
Reasons behind death of elephants
The team investigated the reasons behind the deaths of the wild elephants, and the persons responsible for the deaths and also discussed the way as to how to prevent such incidents from taking place in future.
It may be mentioned here that as many as five wild elephants were electrocuted at a forest stretch in Mosabani on November 21 followed by two more electrocution deaths of the wild elephants in the Chakulia forest range two days later, triggering sensation among the forest department.

The enquiry team collected evidence from the spot and also talked to the villagers surrounding the jungles where the pachyderms were found dead.
Wildlife Crime Control Bureau
Those who carried out the probe include Wildlife Crime Control Bureau’s joined director HV Girisha, senior Wildlife officer, N Laxminarayan, Conservator of Forest (Jharkhand) PR Naidu, JBVNL general manager, Santosh Mani Singh.
Apart from these senior officers, Jamshedpur DFO Mamta Priyadarshi, JBVNL’s Jamshedpur circle superintending engineer Deepak Kumar and executive engineer, Rajkishore were also included in the team.
Reason behind death of two elephants at Chakulia no clear
Having carried out the investigation, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau joint director Girisha while talking to The Jharkhand Story said the reason behind the electrocution death of five elephants at Mosabani was clear, but reason behind the electrocution death of two elephants at Chakulia needs to be investigated further.
“At Chakulia, two elephants were electrocuted in separate places. Hence, we have to find out the circumstances that cause the two pachyderms to get electrocuted in separate places,” he said, adding that the forest department, local administration and the electricity departments must work in close coordination so that such tragedies may not occur in future.
